Black Girl Rising is an original dark comedy piece interrogating black lives and mental health as a result of systemic racism.
This quirky, one-woman show centers on the protagonist of a black girl who is tired of having to justify her innocence, nationality, and intelligence, among other things. To heal her trauma, she has decided to conduct an experiment by inviting the audience into her space, a space that she takes up unapologetically. In this space, she is the norm and everyone else is the other.
Confrontational, the show will not shy away from exploring the uncomfortable areas of racism. The audience is not passive in this experience but participators in the conversation.
