Renee Kire – 175 Eagle Street

‘Rearrangeable Perceptions’

‘Rearrangeable Perceptions’ is an ongoing exploration of the ‘masculine’ aesthetic commonly associated with Minimalism. By examining Minimalism through a contemporary feminist lens, these pieces aim to contribute to a feminist interpretation of art history. By manipulating wood by hand into forms considered ‘feminine and soft,’ this work seeks to challenge our preconceptions about material behaviour and mental perceptions.

Building: 175 Eagle Street
Client: CBRE

CBRE worked with Metro Arts Consulting (MAC) to feature the work of Renee Kire at 175 Eagle Street as part of the placemaking and activation strategy for building tenants.

Installed in the internal lobby of 175 Eagle Street throughout the month of July, 2024, Kire’s work transformed the area with vibrant colours and flowing shapes, creating a dynamic environment that significantly differed from the standard lobby configuration. This activation showcases the approach taken by CBRE to deliver a high-quality experience for building tenants.

The Artist – Renee Kire

Renee Kire is an emerging female artist based in Meanjin/Brisbane. With a focus on feminist art history, she draws inspiration from overlooked female artists to develop new techniques for exploring the precarious nature of minimalist sculpture. Whether large or small in scale, she aims to challenge the traditionally male-dominated narrative through playful explorations of form, colour, and space, often inviting the viewer to interact and complete the experience.

Renee graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours) from Queensland College of Art in 2022 and has since held three solo exhibitions in Brisbane at Metro Arts, Onespace and Outer Space. She was recognized as a finalist in the 2023 Fisher Ghost Art Award and the 2021 National Graduate Showcase at PICA. Her work has also been exhibited at the Buxton Contemporary, Brisbane Powerhouse and Artisan.
